CSOs urged to continue lobbying for an audit of Zimbabwe’s debt

Civil society in Zimbabwe and other stakeholders have been urged to continue lobbying the government to audit debt in the country in order to improve the economic and the development state of the country.

This emerged during a virtual dialogue on debt management, facilitated by the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD) on the 25th of November.

Zimbabwe has over the years accumulated a huge debt that has not been channeled towards the development of the country. This is evidenced by poor health care services in public hospitals and clinics, poor roads and infrastructure among others.

The government’s reluctance to audit debt has raised many reds flags and this has fostered various groups to lobby government to audit debt as part of efforts to find the root cause and possibly recommendations to help ease the amount of debt the government has.
