Targeted investigation reports 2023: Nyakallong, Free State
Nyakallong is a Sesotho word meaning “place of rejoicing”, but with the current living conditions that the community find themselves in, the name has lost its meaning. Mining in Allanridge started way back in the early 1950s and the economy of this small town has solely been dependent on mining.
Voelpan is also known as Sheteng, the name was given to it by the community because of the unbearable stinky smell that emanates from it. It has been stinking and sickening the community of 3 Nyakallong for decades.
