Press statement : MACUA will be protesting against PPC in Limpompo

The Mining Affected Communities United in Action’s (MACUA) Disake branch in the borderline of North West and Limpopo provinces, representing the communities of Kraalhoek, Mokgalaneng, Thabazimbi, Matlametlo and Modikela, will be protesting against Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) mine in Dwaalboom.

Despite being the largest cement maker in South Africa capable of producing over seven million tons of cement products annually, PPC has failed to honour its Social Labour Plans (SLP’s) commitments.
These plans outline a five-year strategy (2019 – 2023) with targets and periods that include various community development initiatives, increasing women participation along with achieving representation of historically disadvantaged South Africans at management levels.
Moreover, the cement industry is known for its environmental impact. PPC’s manufacturing processes contribute significantly to producing sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxide, which pose health risks to sensitive populations like infants and the elderly.
We will present a list of demands to PPC mine and failure to receive the list of demands will result to continued protests our demands are received. The details of the protest are as follows:
Date: 12 March 2024
Time: 10h00
Starting point: Matlametlo T-Junction to PPC Dwaalboom mine
