Tholakele Thabane writes about Caiford Manganye, a 25-year-old from Mokopane, Limpopo, who is a young activist working with MACUA. He started in 2020, inspired by the problems mining communities face, like blasting, air pollution, and dirty water. Manganye focuses on teaching and empowering the community, and he has helped improve the environment by encouraging recycling.
As the Green Hydrogen Project Leader, he looks at the benefits and challenges of green hydrogen in dry Mokopane. Even though the project could bring money, he worries it might use too many local resources. His main goal is to make sure the community is involved in these projects.
