A feeding scheme is a project where children are given small amounts of food to help relieve hunger and also to relieve poor parents from the burden of when they are unable to provide enough food for their children

On 8/08/2024 I met with a lady by the name of Dora she is a 48-year-old lady staying at Block 2 Snake Park. She started the feeding scheme program for orphans and vulnerable children in her community that runs on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The purpose of the feeding scheme is to help children and families who can go to bed with empty stomachs without food. some of them are orphans and some parents are not working they can’t afford some of them depend on social grants money.

She started building a relationship with the parents of the children coming daily to ensure that they knew about their children’s whereabouts. She tries by all means not only food she give but also to teach them to pray and help them with school work.

This initiative is a blessing to most families, especially the little ones, numerous children are well served. This approach not only supports immediate nutrition needs but also contributes to long-term goals of breaking the cycle of poverty and enhancing well-being in the community.

Dora sometimes doesn’t cook because of a shortage of food. She is writing letters seeking sponsorship to level up portions of food because the meal she gives to children is the only meal they get during the day.

She told me that she is looking forward to continuing her work and serving those in need and she aims to continue expanding this project ensuring that her service reaches more children in need.

I interviewed some of the parents whose children go to Dora’s feeding scheme they are happy about what Dora is doing to the community because some of them are not working some of them depend on social grant money. Parents explain that sometimes they go to bed with an empty stomach so since Dora’s soup kitchen children sometimes come home with food for the whole family and they don’t go to bed with an empty stomach.

Dora is seeking for sponsorship so that everything can run smoothly and children don’t go day with empty stomach.
