Local non-governmental organization, Centre for Alternatives for Victimized Women and Children – CAVWOC, says, at least 21 adolescent girls and young women have been rescued from early marriages in Balaka district.
The organization’s district coordinator, Khumbolane Nyirenda, has however told Zodiak Online, Friday, that early pregnancies and school droupout amongst youths is still a challenge due to lack of access to sexual reproductive health rights services among young people.
However, to counter the problem, CAVWOC, says, it has trained 30 youths in theater for development and 15 as community-based distribution agents to dessiminate sexual reproductive health rights information to 2,840 youths in respective communities.
Further to that, the Family Planning Association of Malawi, (FPAM) conducts outreach clinics in the communities to address the same.
