As Bernard Chiguvare reports dozens of protesters have been gathering at the municipal offices in Musina, Limpopo, calling for the immediate resignation of municipal manager Nathi Tshiwanammbi due to allegations of tender corruption. This marks the second consecutive day of protests.
On Monday morning, tensions escalated as some protesters attempted to forcefully enter the building, chanting “Nathi Must Go!” Police intervened to prevent a breach. Peter Jack, leader of “Musina To The Front,” accused Tshiwanammbi of awarding tenders to friends and family, saying, “The community is now fed-up.”
Local resident Mmanare Sithole voiced frustration over the halted renovations at Manyathela Stadium, noting that local small businesses have been excluded from contracts. “Projects of this nature should definitely benefit the local community,” Sithole asserted.
Community leader Uhuru Tshilande has filed a corruption case against Tshiwanammbi on behalf of the community. Mayor Godfrey Mawela acknowledged the situation, stating that a full council meeting would be necessary to address the issue.
Despite these assurances, protesters are steadfast in their demand for Tshiwanammbi’s resignation and have pledged to continue their demonstrations until action is taken. Tshiwanammbi has yet to respond to the allegations.
