The South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) supports the South African Chemical Workers Union (SACWU)’s strike at Rhodes Food Group (RFG) following failed negotiations on wage increases.
The management of RFG refused to accede to the demand put by SAICWU on behalf of its members at the company for a 3-year multi-term deal to increase wages for workers. The following are the demands for the 3-year multi-term deal:
1st year – R700
2nd year – R800
3rd year – R900
SAFTU Supports the wage demands especially given that the cost of living has been elevated in the past 2 years. Workers need decent wages to support themselves and their households.
