Social movements and grassroots organisations coming from communities around kwaLanga, Gugulethu, Nyanga, Khayelitsha, Phillipi, Vrygrond, Mitchells’ Plain, Heidelveld, Crossroads, etc, will gather at the gates of Parliament on Wednesday, 26th of October 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM to discuss what they would like the Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana to include in the medium-term budget policy statement. The gathering will be attended by about 75 delegates from Back2Work Campaign, the Peoples’ Health Movement, Movement for Change and Social Justice among others. Delegates will be reporting on what their communities want to be included in the budget around the following issues:
Unemployment Basic Income GrantPublic HealthDelivery of Municipal ServicesGender-Based Violence & Femicide
The delegates who will converge on the day have been in conversation with their communities. They have been discussing the deteriorating living conditions in their areas. They carry demands from their communities and are asking the Minister of Finance to incorporate them into the budget.
