Hunger and unemployment are driving youths of Matsapha, Mahlabatsini into criminality.  Not too long ago these people were stealing from local small shops and now it has gotten out of hand as they are stealing taps for selling. Early this year, more than 30 residents of Matsapha have reported stolen taps and up to date more than 100 have reported the cases. One of the residents said “Today is the tenth day of buying the taps, we are tired, sesidziniwe nguletigila mkhuba ngoba mabangakebi bayayiphula bashiye kute lutfo.” Apparently they target the steel ones and they break the plastic ones and this affects the residents of Matsapha as they have to foot high water bills due to unnecessary water spillage.
